🪞 How to Do a Tarot Reading for Beginners

🌙 Step Into the Magic

If you’ve just bought your first tarot deck (or have one tucked away waiting for the right moment), this is your sign — it’s time to start reading. Tarot isn’t about predicting every detail of the future; it’s about connecting to your intuition, your higher self, and the energy around you.

Here’s a gentle, no-pressure guide to help you start your journey with confidence.

🔮 Step 1: Cleanse & Connect with Your Deck

Before your first reading, give your deck a little energetic reset. You can:

  • Pass each card through incense smoke or sage.

  • Place a clear quartz crystal on top overnight.

  • Simply hold the deck and set your intention (e.g. “These cards bring clarity and guidance for my highest good.”)

Spend a few minutes shuffling, touching, and really getting to know the feel of your deck.

🌕 Step 2: Create Your Reading Space

Find a quiet spot — light a candle, grab your favourite crystal, or put on calming music. The goal isn’t to make it fancy; it’s to help your mind slow down and tune in.
Your tarot space should feel safe, peaceful, and a little bit magical ✨

🪄 Step 3: Ask a Simple Question

For your first few readings, keep questions gentle and open-ended:

“What do I need to know about my energy this week?”
“What lesson am I being guided to learn right now?”

Avoid yes/no questions at first — they limit the flow. Tarot works best when you’re open to guidance, not just answers.

🌑 Step 4: Use a Three-Card Spread

The simplest (and most insightful) spread for beginners is:

1️⃣ Past / Energy leading up to now
2️⃣ Present / Where you stand
3️⃣ Future / Guidance moving forward

Lay your cards from left to right.
Take a deep breath and look at the imagery.
What feelings come up first? What colours, symbols, or emotions stand out?

Trust your instincts — tarot speaks through intuition, not rules.

✨ Step 5: Journal & Reflect

After each reading, write down what came through — even if it doesn’t make sense yet.
Tarot often reveals patterns over time, and journaling helps you see your growth and guidance unfold.

💫 Caroline’s Tip:

When you’re just starting out, don’t stress about memorising every meaning.
Learn the story the cards are telling together rather than word-for-word definitions.
Over time, you’ll start reading by feeling — not just remembering.

🌕 Ready to Begin?

If you don’t have your own deck yet, explore our Tarot & Oracle Collection — each one handpicked to help you connect deeper with your intuition.

Whether you’re pulling a daily card or reading for friends, trust that the right messages will always find you.
